Al Suwaiq to take on Al Seeb in HM Cup last eight

Omantel League leaders Al Suwaiq will face Al Seeb in a key quarterfinal clash in the His Majesty’s Cup football championship and Al Shabab will meet Sur after the draw was held on Sunday. In the other two encounters, Al Nasr take on Al Bashayer, while Sohar will play against Ahli Sidab. Shaikh Salim al Wahaibi, Oman Football Association Chairman, presided over the draw ceremony at the Seeb Stadium. Unlike the last 16 round, the quarterfinal will be played as a two-legged knock-out matches. The first leg will take action on February 11 while the second leg will be played on February 21.


In Saturday’s games of round 16, HM Cup champions Al Suwaiq edged Oman Club 1-0 to reach the last eight of the prestigious cup, thanks to Abdulaziz al Muqbali goal in the 60th minute. Al Shabab prevailed over Nizwa with a convincing 3-1 victory. At Seeb Stadium, Ishhad Obaid gave Al Shabab the lead in the 8th minute. In the second half, Robert Jansa doubled it by converting a penalty in the 85th minute. Hussain al Riyami scored the lone goal for Nizwa but was not enough as Isam al Barhi fired Al Shabab crowed by scoring the third goal in the stoppage time.


The First Division League sides Al Seeb came back to Muscat with a 2-1 win after they shocked Saham at home. The visitors ended the first half on their side, thanks to Emerson’s goal in the 35th minute. Substitute Yousif al Farsi equalised for Saham in the 47th minute, but Al Seeb regained their lead by scoring the second goal through Saleem al Shabibi in the 78th minute. In the last game, Ahli Sidab thrashed Bidiya 3-0. The goals were scored by Abdallah al Suraihi, Khalid al Battashi and Girand.
