Al Suwaiq start with a win in Omantel League

Muscat, August, 18 - Defending champions Al Suwaiq commenced their Omantel League campaign by registering a 2-1 win over last season’s runner-up Al Shabab at Sohar Sports Stadium on Friday. Al Suwaiq’s goals were netted by Mohsin al Ghassani through a penalty and Mazin al Saadi in open play while Omar Ghenyat scored for Al Shabab. Al Oruba recorded a good start in the first round of Omantel League as they beat Oman club 1-0 in Seeb on Friday. Venesiuous scored the winning goal for Al Oruba through a penalty in the 57th minute. Both teams played with flair and purpose but it was Al Oruba who were able to break the deadlock in the second half as they scored the winning goal.


In another match, Mirbat defeated Muscat 3-1 at the Salalah Sports Stadium. Muscat scored the opening goal through Qader Val in the eighth minute. Abdulrahman al Ghassani equalised for Mirbat soon after. In the second half, Mirbat players focused on launching attacks and Thew Wex scored the second goal while Amer al Shatri boosted Mirbat lead with a third goal. Elsewhere, Salalah giant Dhofar registered a strong start to the league as they won against Saham at their home ground 3-1. Dhofar finished first the first half 2-0 with Odai Khoder and Al Mundher al Alwai scored the first two goals while Al Alawi scored the third goal. Mohammed al Ghassani scored the consolation goal for Saham.
