Muscat: Jordan’s Al Jazeera came from two goals down to defeat Oman’s Al Suwaiq 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at the Seeb Stadium on Match day Three of the 2018 AFC Cup Group A on Monday night.

Later in Amman, another Oman club in the championship, Dhofar also suffered defeat when they were blanked 2-0 by Jordan club Al Faisaly.

At the Seeb Sports Stadium, Abdoulaye Dieng broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute from the spot after Al Jazeera goalkeeper Ahmed Nawwas apprehended striker Khalid al Hajri as the latter attempted to round him.

There was little Nawwas could do to stop Al Hajri eight minutes later as the Omani international rose highest to power with a header from Al Abd al Nawfali’s cross to double the hosts’ lead.

The visitors pulled one back instantly as defender Ahmed al Khamisi’s attempt to clear Musa al Tammari’s in-swinging corner-kick inadvertently sent the ball to Yazan al Arab at the back post, and the Al Jazeera defender headed calmly into the back of the net to make it 2-1 at the break.

Skipper Mohammad Tannous unleashed a thunderous left-footed drive from 25 yards out that left goalkeeper Fayez al Rushaidi helpless in the 67th minute to bring Al Jazeera level. Al Taamari continued his impressive form by finding the net for the third match running as Al Jazeera turned the table on their hosts with 20 minutes to go.

The Jordanian international was brought down inside the box and stepped up to take the penalty himself. Goalkeeper Al Rashidi was left to rue his luck as his touch was not enough to keep Al Tammari’s strike from the spot out. Al Jazeera remain unbeaten in three games and welcome Al Suwaiq to Amman International Stadium for the Match day Four reverse fixture next week.

Al Faisaly blank Dhofar

Two headed goals from Anas Bani Yaseen and Lukasz Gikiewicz earned Al Faisaly a 2-0 win over Dhofar Club in their 2018 AFC Cup Group C tie in Amman on Monday.

Al Faisaly started on the front foot and nearly found the opener in the tenth minute when club captain Ahmed Hayel waltzed into the box and struck the crossbar with a left-footed effort from close distance.

The goal finally arrived at the tail end of the opening period as Bani Yaseen rose highest to head home Alban Meha’s corner-kick at the near post to put the hosts in front two minutes before the end of the first half.

Meha was the creator again as he sent a cross from the right flank for Polish striker Gikiewicz to double Al Faisaly’s lead four minutes into the restart.

Unbeaten Al Faisaly will be full of confidence as they travel south to Salalah where they will face Dhofar again at Al Saada Stadium on Match day Four next week. — AFC
