Al Raid Group, a specialist developer of retail shopping centres and leisure destinations, yesterday celebrated the completion of Oman’s largest integrated retail and entertainment destination at an event attended by media professionals and entrepreneurs. Al Araimi Boulevard will commence operational trials prior to its opening to the public in December.

Located in Al Khoudh, the destination has been built with an investment of RO 62 million. The built up area of 187,000 square metres provides leasable space of 75,000 square metres and more than 210 stores ranging in area from 70-160 square metres. It has a family entertainment centre of 6,000 square metres. There will be 10 cinema screens in addition to a Carrefour hypermarket which will occupy an area of 10,000 square metres. It will also be home to 20 casual dining restaurants with an impressive food court that seats up to 1200 people. There are 3,000 car parks available at the mall.

Shaikh Raid bin Abdullah al Araimi, Vice-Chairman of Al Raid Group, said: “The completion of this project is a clear evidence that Omani companies are able to carry out large projects at international standards. It is a strategic project that sets the benchmark for the world of shopping and entertainment in the Sultanate Oman and the wider world. It is a 100 per cent Omani-owned project and Al-Raid Group is proud the project has achieved its national objectives by embodying the role of the private sector in the process of comprehensive development.”

Al Raid Group has also allocated $1 billion over the next five years to invest in the rapidly growing retail, leisure and tourism sectors in the Sultanate, and is moving forward with the announcement of other large and national projects such as Al Araimi Walk, which will be completed by 2020.

The Vice Chairman added: “Al Araimi Boulevard is a strategic project that will change the commercial landscape in the Sultanate. It will set new standards of excellence in the retail sector. This quality project is characterised by modern design and forward-looking concepts that redefine the concept of shopping and entertainment entirely.”

The shopping mall has one of the largest sky light of almost 6,000 sq meters and it is designed to allow natural light without the heat. The 38 per cent of natural light helps us in saving a lot of energy. We do not have to use electricity for 12 hours of the day,” said Al Araimi.

In addition to hosting a unique shopping environment, Al Araimi Boulevard will provide more than 3,000 direct and indirect job opportunities for Omanis. “We also support Omani entrepreneurs by enabling them to launch their SMEs with competitive rental rates, which are not available in any other project in the Sultanate.”

The project, which is the first of its kind in the Sultanate, combines state-of-the-art technology with contemporary designs and unique concepts to represent a world-class facility. The shopping centre will include several fashion boutiques offering a variety of selections that meet the needs of fashion and shopping enthusiasts. It will offer high-end international brands providing visitors with an exceptional and memorable shopping experience. There will also be a variety of entertainment experiences, including cinema screens, a trampoline park, a virtual reality centre as well as the largest family entertainment centre in the Sultanate. The project will also allow young talented artists to showcase their work in a gallery, dedicated to hosting local and international artists.

Al-Araimi Boulevard is designed in association between Arab Engineering Bureau, Design International and Kiosks. It consists of two floors, providing spaces for water features, fountains and other unique features like green landscaped areas. It is the first environmentally friendly shopping centre in Oman. It has the largest glass dome that allows daylight to enter without heat.
