Agricultural production continues to grow

MUSCAT: The Oman Fair for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Halal Products (Agro Food Oman 2018) opened on Monday with the participation of more than 100 locals, regional and international companies under the auspices of Dr Fuad bin Jaafar al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. The minister said the food production in the Sultanate is increasing annually and in record numbers in the agricultural and fisheries sectors. He said that the figures for 2017 will be announced soon, adding “they are promising and big figures and support the ministry’s plans and programmes.”


He said there are many companies, including the Omani Food Investment Holding that has about 14 projects, which will enter the market in the coming years. Dr Al Sajwani said that the sector and performance is promising and that it gives the country some reassurance, pointing out that there are many projects in progress in the field of shrimp, sea bream, tilapia and abalone in different governorates. Agro Food Oman 2018, held at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, is a link between local and international companies.


The exhibition included the latest equipment, machinery, services and technology reached in these sectors working in agriculture, fisheries, halal products and food factories from around the world. On the sidelines of the exhibition, a number of local and international halal experts will hold workshops to share ideas, scientific and practical best practices and successful studies. The workshops will discuss the challenges and difficulties facing the halal products sector and how to overcome them.


The exhibition focuses on food products, aquaculture, fish and livestock, agriculture, horticulture, environmental management, pesticides, chemicals, slaughterhouses, refrigeration, heating and nutrition equipment, pulses, cereals, milk, meat, poultry, coffee products, logistics systems, halal food, dates, honey and many other related sectors. — ONA
