Muscat, April 19: During summer about 70% of energy consumption for a household goes towards cooling or running the air-conditioning.   The studies conducted by the Authority for Electricity Regulation, Oman (AER) found that there has been tripling effect on electricity bills between other seasons and summer.  Hence the AER has launched an awareness campaign to keep ACs efficient being held at Muscat Grand Mall from April 19th to 21st.

“This campaign is targeted toward the general public and it is something that ideally everyone can do.  We are here to provide people with simple steps they can carry out themselves without a technician.  The steps are for increasing the efficiency of their air-conditioners especially in summer as the ACs are going to be in full blast very soon,” said Faisal Baabood, Project Specialist, AER.

The objective is to increase in efficiency of ACs while having clean air, increase the longevity of their devise while staying cooler.

One of the simple steps the authority is promoting are cleaning the filter – one of the first steps, “Really cleaning the filter increases the efficiency of the AC unit and it also provides you with cleaner air within your home.  The second step would be looking at your outdoor unit.  Most people think it is a difficult task but it is not.  All we have to do is to run some water from up to downward ensuring the dirt is removed.  Carrying out this action regularly will ensure the outdoor unit will run efficiently.  It is such an important unit because it is the outdoor unit that expels the hot air from inside your home to the outside,” added Baabood.

Given that most of the ACs are idle throughout the winter and over the time dirt can accumulate so it is ideal to service the units before summer.

The three-day campaign runs from 10am to 9pm with tips for the adults and activities for children such as coloring and face painting.
