New York: Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Sultanate’s Permanent Delegate to the United Nations in New York, has reviewed the Sultanate’s achievements in the field of marine environment preservation, enhancing balance among social and economic development and achieving sustainable development goals in the comprehensive development sectors in the Sultanate.

He was delivering a speech at the Ocean Conference held in New York.

Shaikh Khalifa also gave an overview about the efforts made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to maintain fisheries through enacting laws and regulations that regularise the sector and ensure its sustainability.

The organisation of this conference comes in a bid to support the aim number 14 of the Sustainable Development Goals regarding the preservation of oceans, seas, marine resources and their use in a sustainable manner to achieve the sustainable development.

This is one of the sustainable development goals, which were approved by world leaders in September 2015 in a bid to address some of the most urging issues facing humanity, such as poverty, hunger, environment and climate changes.
