Accidents continue to drop for fifth consecutive year

MUSCAT, Jan 3 - Royal Oman Police said that for the fifth year in row, there has been a decrease in traffic accidents and loss of human lives.


Deaths from accidents have decreased by 52 per cent and injuries by 33 per cent.


Traffic accidents have decreased by 67 per cent compared to the end of 2012. It added that more traffic service centres have been opened in most of the Sultanate’s governorates and provinces, along with online services.


According to National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the number of accidents in the first 11 months of


2017 dropped from 3,478 compared to 4,260 during the same period ago, a decline of 18.4 per cent.


The number of injuries has declined by 0.4 per cent.


The number of deaths dropped 5.8 per cent from 580 in the first 11 months of 2017, compared to 616 during the same period in 2016.


383 Omanis lost their lives of which 300 were males. 197 expatriates lost their lives in these accidents, of which 171 were females.


ROP, on the eve of January 5, the police said it is committed keep up with the digitalisation to meet the requirements of e-government through the introduction of the e-Visa on June 19, which help facilitate the procedures for obtaining Visa via the website.


ROP said that one million documents, 293,795 ID cards, 1,111,604 resident cards, 92.504 birth certificates for Omanis, 7.362 birth certificates for residents, along with death certificates for both Omanis and residents in 2017.
