Abdullah storms into semis

MUSCAT, DEC 23 - Top ranked Abdullah al Barwani of Oman thrashed compatriot Abdullah al Raisi 6-0, 6-0 to storm into the semifinals of the GCC Under-18 tennis championship in Muscat on Sunday. In the under-14 section, Oman’s Marwan al Khanjari edged out Qatar’s Ali Mohammed 6-4, 7-5 in a closely fought match earlier. In under-14 doubles, the Omani pair lost to the Kuwaiti duo 6-1, 6-1. Earlier, the organising committee held a meeting at the Grand Hyatt Muscat under the chairmanship of Abdul Redha Jassim al Ghareeb, Chairman of GCC Organising Committee.


The Oman Tennis Association (OTA) were represented by Chairman Khalid al Adi and Salman al Balushi, OTA General Manager and general supervisor of the championship. The Technical Committee consists of Abdul Redha Jassim al Ghareeb of Kuwait as chairman and Mundhir al Barwani, Salman bin Abdulrahim al Balushi, Aseel Shahin and Abdulrazzaq Said as members. The meeting approved Qatar’s hosting of the general championship and the under-14 championship in March 2019. Bahrain will host under-14 and under-18 championships in April. It also approved the development of the beach tennis championships in the member states.
