Rustaq, March 2 -

A total of 89 photographs were on display at the ninth photography forum organised by Rustaq College of Education’s photographic club on Thursday.

Titled ‘Reflection’, the forum saw participation from 45 photographers. It was opened under the auspices of Dr Nabhan Saif al Lamki, State Council member, and attended by Dr Humood Aamir al Wardi, Dean of Rustaq College, academic faculty, administrative bodies and students.

Photographs on display were clicked by students of both private and government colleges, as well as universities across Oman.

Both male and female students from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Caledonian College of Engineering, Middle East College, Sur and Salalah Colleges of Applied Sciences, Nizwa University, and Al Musannah, Shinas and Nizwa Colleges of Technology participated.

Thirty pictures were selected by a committee comprising photographers, Haitham al Farsi, Majid al Aamri and Mohammed al Hajri. The remaining 59 were clicked by members of the Rustaq College’s photographic club.

Two photographic competitions had been organised, one for students of private and government colleges, and universities, and the other for members of the photographic club.

Arif al Balushi, the supervisor of photographic club, said: “Reflection is the club’s most successful activity. It is a pride to have professional photographers who are students of Rustaq College.”

For Fatima al Rawahi, a student, the forum was a “good experience” to develop her photographic skills. “Reflection is my second experience at the college’s photographic club. It was of great help in developing my skills through workshops conducted by the club.”

Marwa al Kharusi said: “I started in 2013 as a member of the club. Once I was thoroughly involved, my photographic skills improved. The club inspired me to participate in photography expos in and outside the college.”

Humood al Naamani, a student, secured first place in the college-level competition.

“For the second time, I am achieving the first place in the competition. It is a great achievement I am proud of. My photographs have been captured on tourist journeys around Oman’s charming spots.”

Hanan al Asmi, a student at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) who won the second place, was delighted. Two of her photos were selected for the award.

Hind al Hajri, a student from Caledonian College of Engineering, won the third prize. “I am glad to have taken part. We are proud that six of our works have been accepted at the forum.”

The forum, which concluded on Thursday, saw a significant presence of student and employees from inside and outside the Rustaq College community.
