By Amal Al Riyami — NIZWA: Jan 17 - Youth Echo Team, in cooperation with Sultan Qaboos University, held the conclusion of ‘Waqada gathering’ in its third batch and the graduation of 60 apprentices of female researchers at Ibri College of Technology, on Monday. The final day concluded with a workshop about American Psychological Association Style in citation presented by Hamood al Amri, Translator in Office of Assistant Dean for postgraduate Studies and researches. Al Amri explained the methods of resources citation through APA style. He clarified the features of APA style and why it is better for researchers than the other citations style.
He pointed out the basics of APA references namely book with one author citation, journal articles, web sites, and magazine articles.
The participants presented various competitions and challenges in order to exchange knowledge and experience between the 60 th girls who participated from wilayits of Ibri, Dhank, and Younqul. It is worth mentioning that the ‘Waqada third gathering’ was lunched on Saturday.
It focused on scientific research topic in order to develop youth skills in studying their society’s issues.
In light of these goals, Abeer al Farsi, the gathering main organiser said,” our message is to graduate 60 girls have the knowledge of scientific research methodologies.”
She says ‘writing reports is not our goals, we have to achieve studies with real scientific studies. We published a competition to motivate participants to study social, economic, political, religious and political issues in Al Dharia region,” she says.
In first phase of competition, they got the basics of how to make the scientific research proposal in four sessions presented by specialists from SQU.
The second phase was choosing topics for researches which have to be done in one month.”
The issues which chosen by the young researchers was female GYMs in Ibri, healthy meals in schools, another topic was about volunteer teams, and three more issues.
Naila al Shmali, one of the participants said, “It was beginning to look to this domain like it could not be just a normal research, but that there might be a very well climate to think out of the box. I felt that I have the social responsibility to solve problems in Ibri.”
