50pc of works complete in third phase of Duqm Airport

MUSCAT: Dr Mohammed bin Nasser al Zaabi, CEO of the Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA), said 50 per cent of the works of the third phase of Duqm Airport Project in the Governorate of Al Wusta was over and the rest will be completed by the end of 2017, including passengers’ terminal and air traffic control tower. In a statement, Dr Al Zaabi said the operation of the airport will start in 2018. He said before moving to the airport total readiness was to be ensured by all operators, including Omani Airports Management Company (OAMC) Oman Air, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and other agencies in coordination with the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (SEZAD). He said that there is plan to increase the number of flights between Muscat and Duqm to five from 4 due to rising number of tourists to the governorate, business people at the Special Economic Zone of Duqm. He said the airport is ready to receive international flights in the future for the people of Al Wusta. — ONA
