We all have our bucket lists, whether it’s to do with life goals, things to experience, foods to try and cultures to explore but something that includes all these experiences is travelling to another destination to have new experiences, cultures, and opportunities to try things you never thought you could before. A bucket list is a great way to keep yourself motivated, a little reminder that there’s more to life than the daily grind of our routine lives. Here are some of the places that one should definitely add to their travel bucket list!

A wildlife safari in Gambia, Kenya or Tanzania

An unforgettable experience, a wildlife safari is perfect to add to your travel bucket list because it is a complete package of adventure, culture along with exciting encounters with animals in their natural habitat. Being in the middle of what we’ve only seen on National Geographic, it is sure to be an almost surreal experience.

You are bound to see animals of all sorts that make the savanna their home and if you get lucky you could hit the target of the big five! — Lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant and the cape buffalo. It is important to remember and remind those around you to not only respect locals and their customs, but the animals themselves. Unlike a zoo, where the animals are free roaming, truly wild and in their element and witnessing this is something that one can only experience here — up-close and personal.

Experience the Northern Lights in Iceland, Sweden, Canada or Norway

Something that can only be said to be a “heavenly” experience, Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis is a rare phenomenon that can’t be compared to much else. Although unlimited photos of the phenomenon float on the Internet, nothing can truly capture what the naked eye can see.

The northern lights are formed by collisions between gaseous particles in the Earth’s atmosphere with charged particles released from the sun’s atmosphere. Variations in colour are due to the type of gas particles that are colliding. All you need is a camera that allows you to set ISO, shutter speed and aperture. Preferred ISO will depend on your camera capabilities, lens, and strength or Aurora.

Hike to Machu Picchu in Peru

Surrounded by majestic mountain peaks and at nearly 2500 meters above sea level, the ruins of the great Inca civilisation in the sky are truly spectacular and this is why it made to our list.

The engineering genius and precision of the Incas is simply stunning, they mastered the technique called ashlar where the blocks of stone are cut to fit together tightly without mortar. The stones are so tightly fit you can’t even fit a blade between them. It is also a testament to the structural integrity of the site that it still stands, through earthquakes, constant torrential rain and not the footfall of thousands of tourists every year. Make sure to take plenty of pictures because you’ll want to relive these memories for the rest of your life.

Overwater Bungalow in Maldives, French Polynesia or Fiji

They are in lush destinations around the world A few destinations dotted throughout the oceans are home to overwater bungalows, so you can have your pick of the bunch. Imagine a relaxed breakfast in your bungalow sipping on coffee and eating some fresh fruit, all the while looking down at a sheer glass panel below that gives you a beautiful view of the underwater world! Expect to see colourful fish and other marine creatures glide below your thatched-roof accommodation as you gaze into the gorgeous depths. In addition to this, most will have direct water access. Be sure to splurge if you can, while every overwater bungalow you come across will be comfortable and will offer a beautiful experience, that extra touch of luxury can make all the difference.

Stay in the heart of the Rainforest in a luxury hotel in Bali

Although this might be a “treat yourself” kind of holiday, it never hurt to pamper yourself!
