Bolstering bilateral relations in the ICT domain including IT security cooperation, eight Korean companies are on a B2B task with their local counterparts here.

The trade visit is organised by Korea Trade — Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).

The Korean IT security delegation comprised of eight companies dealing in security monitoring and controls systems, VoIP security, network access control systems, and network security. KOTRA and KISA arranged prescheduled one-to-one meetings with the reputed Omani IT companies. The event was supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT- Korea along with Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA).

“There is a huge opportunity in IT security industry of Oman. Through these meetings we can find like-minded Omani companies and look forward to collaborations between Korean and Omani companies in the dynamic IT sector of Oman”, Kang Doho, South Korea’s Ambassador to Oman told the Observer.

He further said that Korea is one of the top countries importing Oman LNG and more than 50 per cent of the imports is from Oman. The bilateral trade relations between the two stood at an average of $4 to 6 billion, however faced a minor setback post the economic downturn over the past few years.

In November 2016, Korean IT companies specialising in digital forensic solutions development, information-security solutions, smartphone security, data-centre optimisation applications had visited Oman to establish a foothold in the growing IT Security market, via business partnership and tie up with reputed Omani IT companies.

“These meetings are bound to enhance bilateral relationships between the two countries and introduce the advanced Korean IT technology in Oman. I hope the visit by the delegation this year will strengthen the bridges of cooperation between the two countries in the IT security industry”, Dr Jae-Kyung Kang, KISA’s Oman office Director said.

“As part of the bilateral trade relations, several visits are planned between the Korean and Omani trade delegations in the coming months which will be highly beneficial for both” Young Hee Lee, Director General and Commercial Attaché at the KOTRA added.
