The oil and gas sector of the Sultanate has the capacity to recruit 1,500 to 2,000 nationals annually up to 2020. The sector has registered 65 per cent Omanisation rate and managed to reinstate 4,000 nationals who were previously laid off.

Ali bin Saleem al Junaibi, Head of Oil and Gas Sectoral Committee, said that a study conducted by the committee has identified the training requirements which enables the companies to meet the Omanisation target. The oil and gas sector is considered to be the most attractive sector for young Omanis.

Oil and gas companies place trust on Omani youth and their ability to handle technical jobs, however, the Omanisation rates vary from one company to another depending on many factors such as the nature of work and services of each company. Al Junaibi considers qualifying young Omanis and preparing them for technical and engineering jobs to be the main challenge facing the sector.
