372 students graduate from WCAS

MUSCAT: The 12th convocation of Waljat College of Applied Sciences (WCAS) in academic partnership with Birla Institute of Technology, India, was held recently at Al Noor Plaza, Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos in a ceremony presided over by Dr Ali bin Saud al Bimani, Vice-Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University. Prof Manoj Kumar Mishra, Vice-Chancellor BIT, Dr Zuhoor Abdullah Salim al Khanjari, Chairperson of Trustee Council, Dr Abdullah Mohamed Ahmed al Mahruqi, Vice-Chairman Trustee Council, Prof AP Krishna, Registrar BIT, Trustee Council Members, Prof SL Gupta, Dean, WCAS, dignitaries from various ministries, parents of graduating students and other distinguished guests were present on the occasion.


Three hundred and seventy two students who graduated from different programmes were awarded degrees and diplomas in their respective disciplines, of which 294 students received graduate degrees, 46 received diplomas and 32 received Master degrees.


In his speech Dr SL Gupta appreciated the efforts of students, their parents and teachers for their achievements. He stressed on continuous improvement of teaching, learning and research facilities to create best academic environment.


Students who have graduated with the highest academic performance in management, engineering and computer applications in the year 2015-16, have been awarded gold medals. Prof Gupta felicitated the toppers of the academic year 2015-2016 with gold medals and certificates.


The gold medal recipients are Thuraiya Said Ibrahim al Farsi (EMBA), Wayne Ashley D’souza (MBA), Aziza Khalfan Saif al Salhi (BBA PT), S Parvatha Sundari ( BBA), Sam Sunny Thomas (BCA), Shika Hanif Malgundkar ( BE).


Prof Gupta announced the Best Project Award. The project titled ‘Edutech-online examination system’ has been declared as the best project of the year 2015-2016. The Best Project Award has been instituted to motivate and inculcate a culture of research and innovation among undergraduate students of Waljat College.


The Chief Guest gave away the best project award to Jeyanthy Sivakumaran and Zamzam Abdullah Hamood al Habsi. WCAS has started one new programme BE in Chemical Engineering and EMBA weekend programme from monsoon 2016. It has applied for three new courses in engineering to MOHE for approval.
