36.8 per cent students in private higher education institutions

MUSCAT: The recent statistics published by the Statistics Department at the Higher Education Admission Centre (HEAC) in the Ministry of Higher Education pointed out that the number of students who study at their own cost at the private higher education institutions as of the academic year 2015-2016 stood at 25,896 comprising 36.8 per cent of the total number of students at the higher education institutions that stood at 70,294.


Male students comprised 61.1 per cent while female students represented 38.9 per cent of the total number of students.


The statistics also indicated that most students paying for their own education are studying to get a bachelor degree by 70.4 per cent.


Business administration and commerce disciplines were the first option chosen by 51.3 per cent


of the total number of students whereas engineering and technology related fields came second by 15 per cent.


Gulf College received the highest number of these students at 16.1 per cent, followed by Al Buraimi University.
