247 disabled students at higher ed institutions

MUSCAT: The Statistics Department at the Higher Education Admission Centre said that the number of students with special needs at the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) during the academic year 2014-2015 stood at 247 (66 per cent of them are males and 34 per cent of them are females with 92.3 per cent Omanis and 7.7 per cent non-Omanis). 89.1 per cent of these student study to get bachelor degree, 10.5 per cent to get diploma degree and 0.4 per cent to get MA degree. 34 per cent of these students study at the Gulf College, 19.8 per cent at Sultan Qaboos University and 6.1 per cent at Sohar University. 34 per cent of the students study business administration compared to 25.5 per cent for culture and society and 8.5 per cent for engineering and its associated technology. 22 students with special needs study at the universities in USA and Jordan. — ONA
