214,558 insured Omanis in private sector till December end

MUSCAT: The Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI) in its latest statistics has said that the number of active establishments covered by the social insurance system as of the end of December 2016 stood at 16,462 and that the number of active insured workers in the private sector till the end of December 2016 stood at 214558. The number of new registered cases from January to the end of December 2016 stood at 57,318. A 23.8 per cent of the total insured fall at the age category between 26-30 years. The average salary for contribution purpose for active insured is RO 652.


The number of active insured Omanis under the GCC Insurance Coverage Extension System stood at 1,810. The number of Omanis working for their own and their equivalent witnessed a rise to hit 10,786. The number of accumulated pensions paid at the end of December 2016 stood at 13,603, 40.5 per cent of whom were receiving old-age pensions, 33.5 per cent receiving death pension for non-vocational reasons, 18.8 per cent receiving pension salaries for non-vocational disability, 3 per cent for vocational disability and  4.2 per cent for vocational death. The number of cases that received insurance benefits due to vocational injuries during the year and up to the end of December 2016 stood at 525 of which 36.6 per cent were due to traffic accidents. — ONA
