More than 200,000 citizens have so far begun utilising their fuel cards, issued as part of the National Fuel Subsidy System, launched earlier this year. According to the latest statistics issued by authorities, as many as 207,242 nationals representing around 60 per cent of the total beneficiaries registered as part this national initiative, have been presenting their fuel cards at filling stations as of February 11.

North and South Al Batinah Governorates attracted the largest share of card holders (34.92 per cent), followed by Muscat Governorate (25.84 per cent), Al Dakhiliyah (15.14 per cent), Al Sharqiyah North and South Governorates (9.72 per cent), Al Dhahirah (6.17 per cent), Dhofar (4.14 per cent) and Al Buraimi (2.56 per cent). Usage was lowest in the Governorates of Al Wusta (0.99 per cent) and Musandam (0.25 per cent).

Filling stations of Oman Oil accounted for a 52 per cent share of card users by number, followed by Shell Oman (31 per cent) and Al Maha (17 per cent).

The statistics also show that of the 1948 Omani fishermen registered under the national fuel subsidy system, 1291 had begun using their fuel allocations this month.
