By Abdulrahman Ali al Nassri — MUSCAT:  April 24 - Jabal Shams Challenge will be launched on April 28. The race aims to promote the Sultanate as a unique tourist destination for the adventurous from all over the world. It is jointly organised by the Ministry of Tourism and the Husak Group. The race will be held at Jabal Shams, the highest mountain peak in the Arabian Gulf with a height of 3,000 metres. It will see participants from different countries and age groups. Participants will gather at Wadi Al Nakhr in Hamra before the start of the race and then move to Sama Resort at Jabal Shams. Launch will take place at the resort. Whoever reaches the mountain peak first will be declared the winner. An award of $3,000 awaits the winner.

Ali Hussain, Husak’s manager, said: “The challenge of Jabal Shams in its last version was very popular with more than 200 people from different countries taking part in it. We hope to attract more adventurers and athletes this year.” The ministry has rehabilitated and maintained a number of mountain tracks. The rehabilitation includes the eastern and western Hajar mountain ranges and the mountain range in Muscat. The ministry is currently developing and maintaining ancient mountain routes located in the eastern and western Hajar mountains, in addition to the development of ancient mountain paths that have not been rehabilitated before.
