Muscat: An 18-km section of the Bidbid-Sur dual road from Masroon in Ibra to the Wilayat of Sur has been opened for traffic, yesterday.

The opening was attended by Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications and Engineer Salim bin Mohammed al Nuaimi, Under-Secretary and Shaikh Yahya bin Hamood al Maamari, Governor of North Al Sharqiyah.

The road has 3 flyovers, 2 underpasses and 3 lanes in each direction, Al Nuaimi said. He added that the implementation rate at the Al Aqq area has exceeded except for the parts where the collapse has occurred. Some solutions have been found for the problem of collapse in the road including constructing a tunnel and fixing the bends on the road side.

The opening of this portion brings total opened distance of the Bidbid-Sur to 109 km.
