Muscat, April 26 -

A total of 12,664 Omanis, 300 Arab expatriates and 300 non-Arabs residing in Oman will perform Haj this year, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs has said.

The online system for Haj registration, which opened on April 10 and closed on April 22, has received an overwhelming response.

It saw an increase of nearly 10,000 applicants over last year.

“We received a tremendous response to the online registration system, with 23,670 applicants registering to perform Haj,” Hamoud al Amri, Deputy Head of the Haj Department, said.

A total of 22,363 Omanis, 939 Arab expatriates and 368 non-Arab expatriates had registered online.

Newcomers and senior citizens were accorded priority.

Oman has a Haj quota of 14,000, besides local, Arab and non-Arab pilgrims.
