10-year validity for Philippines passports

MUSCAT: The Philippines government has started issuing passports with a 10-year validity from January 1, this year. The Philippines Embassy in Muscat has been informed by the Omani authorities that it will no longer accept passports with validities that have been accepted manually. Filipino individuals have been urged to apply for the renewal of their passports before it expires so that not to be unduly inconvenienced when travelling or renewing their resident cards. Filipino nationals should contact the embassy’s consular section for more information, the officials said.

It may be noted that the Department of Foreign Affairs in October issued an order Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No 10928 (2017). Under the IRR, no changes will be made on the current passport except for the ten-year validity period, for those issued to Filipinos 18 years or older. Filipinos under 18 years will still be issued five-year valid passports. The ten-year passport will cost PHP950, which is the current price of a five-year passport.
